From fighting acne decades past puberty to scoffing at the first signs of wrinkles, it’s hard to win the clear skin game. But before you curse your genes, ask yourself whether your skincare routine and lifestyle habits are up to par. And by that, we don’t mean clocking hours in front of the mirror or stealing your girlfriend’s fancy facial products.
Here we go.
1| Wash Your Face Before Sleeping
I know after a long hard day, in the end, the bed looks good. But not washing away all the dirt and grime from the day is just asking for a breakout.
After you clear your skin with a facial cleanser, remember to moisturize it. You will thank yourself for that in later adult age.

2| Get Some Sleep
As you sleep, your skin goes into repair and regeneration mode. Not getting a full eight hours of sleep disrupts your skin’s healing process, which can worsen the appearance of blemishes and give you dark under-eye circles.
Not only that, but a lack of sleep can indirectly cause acne by increasing your cortisol levels. Cortisol levels increases due to poor sleeping habits. An increase in cortisol levels triggers the skin’s sebaceous glands to produce more oil.
3| Avoid Sugar
Sugar is known to exacerbate acne and cause breakouts.
It’s not just sugar that you need to worry about. Any high-glycemic foods that your body must convert into glucose can cause your insulin levels to spike, which then sends a burst of inflammation throughout the body.
Glucose can also increase the production of free radicals. One study published in the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology found that excess sugar in the bloodstream can trigger the body’s production of free radicals, which can also cause inflammation in the body.
4| Exfoliating Your Skin
Dead skin cells can clog up pores and cause breakouts. Exfoliating twice a week with a men’s face scrub can help slough off dead skin cells to prevent pimples, as well as keep your skin youthful and healthy.
Just be careful not to overdo it. Exfoliating more than twice a week can dry out your skin and cause acne.
5| Make a Skin Care Routine and Stick To It
It’s time for us to squash this dangerous myth once and for all. Your skincare routine doesn’t need to be complicated! All you need are the skincare basics that are easy to use, take little time to apply and are designed for regular guys.
6| Stay Hydrated
Skin needs moisture from the inside out. Studies suggest drinking six to eight glasses of H2O a day. Also, keep tabs on how much alcohol and caffeine you’re gulping down. Both can make you dehydrated; but, drinking coffee or booze along with food and water can help counter the dehydrating effects.
7| Don’t Stress out
Stress wreaks havoc on your skin, too. Getting frazzled throws hormone levels into flux, which damages healthy skin cells and makes you more prone to breakouts and wrinkles. Because you won’t find a bottle of zen in the skincare aisle, recharge and relax by doing what you love, whether it’s exercising or cracking open a new book.
